GOP field warms to YouTube debate

The majority of Republican presidential candidates are backing off their objections to participating in the unconventional YouTube debate.

Candidates' reservations about the seriousness of the format, which features videotaped questions from voters, and the original September date are being resolved and the field is growing, said sources close to the campaigns and debate organizers.

"We're working with CNN, YouTube and the candidates to find a suitable date," said Florida Republican Party spokeswoman Erin VanSickle, whose group is co-sponsoring the debate with the cable news network, to be aired live from St. Petersburg, Fla.

i thought, that the u-tube debate was a fresh idea....but then cnn put in a lot of kissie...huggie questions...and as a member of the NRA....that guy who ask his question...was kinda outthere for me......(so was the snowman)

but in my mind.....they should be open to any question a citizen has to ask them......

(just please don't wear a snowman suit)

I think the whole thing is equivalent to having the candidates do a show like "Who's Line is it Anyway", and beneath us, Dems AND Republicans).

It's an eye opener, and shows why Republicans shouldn't do it....

PRESIDENT OBAMA: We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.

I'll have to give that a look when I am not so tired, I bet it's dead-on.

My point is, go to YouTube - pick ANY video, from flower pollenation to guitar solos, and READ THE COMMENTS. Then it wouldn't be such a surprise that people with pierced faces and snowmen are the ones asking questions.

We all view YouTube Videos, and some even post vids for legitimate reasons - but in all seriousness, I bet 75% of those cretins either can't, or won't, vote. It's reality TV at it's worst.

I agree with on the format,But still it is better than a talking head asking all of the questions...Ity wasn't all that long ago( i hate that word, ago) they use to ride on trains and talked to the peop[le, and answered there questions..........and noone was there to edit them.......

that is all i have to say....I'll go back to lurking now.....

Because I see the YouTube crowd for what they are. Yes there are a few grains of wheat among the chaff, but again I think the "YouTube" crowd (registered to post and comment) are by and large a waste of time for candidates and quite frankly, my viewing time. I'd like to see a Demographic of the YouTube community.

There ARE exceptions - people who post videos for friends, family, etc. - but there is a culture there similar to MySpace, UseNet, The DUh, or even here if we didn't watch the place

As far as speaking to Joe six-pack (hey, I'm a Joe six-packer) I don't want my questions hand-picked by CNN, let alone the YouTube community. At least CNN has a valid reason, many registered voters watch and they are considered (AHEM) a valid news source.

The YouTube angle, to me, is about the same as if they lined up all the candidates and let them host TRL or Big Brother 12, or whatever number they are on now.

Joe Six-Pack questions are what town-hall meetings and debates are for, what campaign stops are for.

And don't just lurk! Your opinions are as valid as anyone else's. Post away

Idea wasn't bad just the crowd involved with it don't seem to be taking it seriously. I didn't go through any of the videos but from what I've heard there were a good deal of people just making things to try and be funny. Even though the political atmosphere in this country is a joke right now, there's no need to add more insult to it.

The GOP YouTube Debate Is Back On
This just in: The Republican CNN/YouTube debate, in limbo for the past few weeks, is on again.

But Mitt Romney, who won Saturday's Iowa straw poll and has criticized the debate format, has yet to commit to the Nov. 28 event.

Romney, the lone GOP holdout, has posted more videos on his YouTube channel (283 as of Sunday afternoon) than any other presidential candidate, Republican or Democrat. But he has resisted the debate, in which videotaped questions are submitted through YouTube. In an interview with Manchester Union Leader, Romney said, "I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman."

Still Waiting on GOP YouTube Debate
The Republican CNN/YouTube debate may still be on -- but so far two of the biggest names in the GOP field have yet to sign up for the Nov. 28 event.
