Only in America. Hopefully, because the story has been brought out in the public eye, those who can, will get it back.
The Great Ground Zero HeistGround Zero has been stolen, right from under our noses. How do we get it back?On Memorial Day weekend, three Marines from the 24th Expeditionary Unit who had been wounded in Iraq were joined by 300 other service members for a wreath-laying ceremony at the empty pit of Ground Zero. The broken pieces of the Twin Towers have long ago been cleared away. There are no faded flags or hand-painted signs of national unity, no simple tokens of remembrance. So why do they come? What do they hope to see?
The World Trade Center Memorial will break ground this year. When those Marines return in 2010, the year it is scheduled to open, no doubt they will expect to see the artifacts that bring those memories to life. They'll want a vantage point that allows them to take in the sheer scope of the destruction, to see the footage and the photographs and hear the personal stories of unbearable heartbreak and unimaginable courage. They will want the memorial to take them back to who they were on that brutal September morning.
Instead, they will get a memorial that stubbornly refuses to acknowledge the yearning to return to that day. Rather than a respectful tribute to our individual and collective loss, they will get a slanted history lesson, a didactic lecture on the meaning of liberty in a post-9/11 world. They will be served up a heaping foreign policy discussion over the greater meaning of Abu Ghraib and what it portends for the country and the rest of the world.

That is so wrong on so many levels. :011:

Does our government think they are helping our global image by placating the terrorists and telling the world that we are to blame for 9/11?
I was AT Ground Zero in the late afternoon of September 11th, 2001. I felt the heat from the fires, inhaled the dust and fumes, helped clear rubble by hand, and smelled things that I would not attempt to describe...to make the site anything other than a tribute to the thousands of Americans who were murdered that day, and the brave heroes who gave up their lives trying to rescue victims, is a disgrace and a sick example of political correctness run amok...What is most important, in my opinion, is to make sure that everyone who visits the site from now on will be reminded of what happened there, and who attacked us...To gloss over the truth, and ignore the reality of that day simply invites our enemies to do it again...just my two cents...

TAKE BACK THE MEMORIAL RESPONDS TO THE IFC
From Cox and Forum
The 9/11 Memorial will be buried underground. It's stories, artifacts, and place in history hidden underground. The fear, loss, hope and heroism of 9/11 replaced in prominence by stories from a different time, about a different day. While the memories of 9/11 are hidden underground, while 9/11 tries to squeeze between the infrastructure underground, a shiny new building is going to be constructed for the International Freedom Center. The message will not be the hope and renewal of 9/11, but a debate on world politics. The space will not be a sacred remembrance, but rather a speaker‚s corner. When you come to the WTC site you will not be immersed in 9/11. You will be met with world politics. No one who has come to the WTC site in the last almost four years has asked about world politics. Why? Because, it isn‚t the appropriate place. Everyone knows that.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.
Yep-that just stinks...............![]()
We are the strongest nation in the world and we continue to cower to each and every other nation. As long as we continue to respond to their "bullying" in this manner, their "bullying" will continue.
