    Palin Steps Down

Sarah Palin Quits as Alaska Governor

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday that she is stepping down at the end of the month, setting up a potential run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shocked the political word Friday by announcing that she will step down at the end of the month and transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.

Palin made the announcement from her home in Wasilla, flanked by her husband, Todd, and family and state commissioners.

"I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path," Palin said after the announcement, according to a press release from her office. "Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional 'Lame Duck' status in this particular climate would just be another dose of 'politics as usual,' something I campaigned against and will always oppose."

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl, but something doesn't smell right.

If this is a political move to campaign for president for 3 years, I think it's a dumb one.

If she's leaving politics for her family, you can't really blame her.

I just hope no scandal is brewing. She could be an asset to the party in 2012, if not my favored candidate.

I agree, harv. I'm wondering how things are going to fall out over the next few days/weeks.

(Dear God, please don't let it be the start of a 3 year campaign. )

It's a bizarre situation to be sure, but she's under such scrutiny i don't know how any scandal (after 15 failed attempts by the media) could be missed.

Slim hope there. 3 years of "touring", town halls, PAC promotion and kissing babies isn't a bad thing - but giving up her ace in the hole (experience - one she had over Obama, but of course is losing now, Chairman Zero will have been prez 4 years come next election)

It smells bad. You don't just give up being governor.

Doesn't really matter why she dropped. The United States of America is a corpse. This, along with the Sanford debacle, is just part of the denouement of a long and finished narrative.
